A Perfect Lie

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mdeoh22EyP1qhgis6o1_500.gif

Sometimes I can't help but feel that "photoshoping" an image to the point that the original is starkly different- is essentially lying.
Looking in depth at this photo shop job, not only did they increase her cup size, her waist has been severely slimmed, her arms, neck, shoulder and thighs have also been slimmed. The lines on her neck have been removed, along with lines under her eyes, her cheeks, nose, eyebrows, eyes, and even her hair line has been altered along with skin tone.
As a photographer I brush up photos to make my clients look their best, but I do not alter their appearance to the point that it looks like a totally different person. This my friends, is madness. We are being taught (if you will) to seek a beauty that does not exist. It's not real.
What, may I  ask, was wrong with this young lady in the first place? He stomach was flat, her face beautiful, she is already thin. Why must her tummy be pulled in and she is given an almost barbie-like figure?  Why was she not "good enough" in the first place?
Did you know that a 15 minute exposure to most magazines (especially fashion) will DECREASE a woman's satisfaction with her body and self image by 50%?
"Body dissatisfaction is a term used to express the feeling that people may have that their actual physical appearance is not how they would ideally like it to be. Grabe, Hyde, and Ward state that approximately 50% of girls and undergraduate women experience body dissatisfaction (2008). They also state that body dissatisfaction has been linked to “critical physical and mental health problems” and that a person experiencing body dissatisfaction is at great risk for developing an eating disorder.  Having unrealistic expectation for one’s body image creates a greater chance for body dissatisfaction. The media may influence one’s body image in such a way through the constant portrayal of the “thin ideal”. " -Effects of Media on Body Image

Can I state right here, right now, that you do not need to be 118 lbs, 5'11 and have flowing hair and flawless skin to be beautiful?

Well, just needed to rant about this.
God bless,
