So to help you on your Christmas gift giving search I wanted to shout out my Mom's new Etsy page!

During the past two years my mom started discovering a love of crocheting little baby hats! She had started making hats for the new grandbaby and started learning so many new techniques and patterns.

After making quite a few hats as gifts for baby showers a lot of the church ladies started asking her if they could buy hats from her.

 So my mom decided to take the plunge and start her own Etsy page!

 My mom decided to call it "Pretty Penny Yarns"

My Favorites From My Childhood- The Prince of Egypt

It's a proven fact that certain smells and sounds can trigger memories, and for some reason I had a sudden urge to look up the soundtrack to "The Prince of Egypt" after hearing a bit of music that reminded me of the cartoon. Dreamworks' 1998 Bible-based musical about Moses and the children of Israel is honestly a masterpiece. If you have never seen this movie I highly recommend it.  The music and art direction in this movie is breathtaking. The songs are so well written and performed it still gives me chills to this day. "Deliver Us," has made me tear up every single time and it's been 17 years!  

While "The Prince of Egypt" is not entirely accurate to the Biblical account of Moses it is still worth the watch. The film really helps interject a sense of relatable human emotions that children can understand and identify with. After a recent re-watch of some scenes I noticed how often small children were used to convey emotion in the story.

Book-tober - Interview with Me!

1) What was the first book that drew you into the joys of reading for fun?

As a child the first book that really captured my attention was The Box Car Children. Our local library had a painted wooden boxcar model that held the books in the series. I was obsessed with The Box Car Children for several years.

2) What picture book  from your childhood sticks out in your memory?

There are several  picture books that I remember, mostly for the beautiful illustrations, one of my favorites was I Had A Cat by Mona Rabun Reeves, and Julie Downing (Illustrator)

3) As a teen what book or book series was your favorite?

The Redwall Series hands down. I LOVED those books and couldn't get enough of them! My personal favorite book in the series was Triss.

4)What was your least favorite book you ever read?

Many Waters by Madeline L'engle. While I LOVED her book A Wrinkle in Time, 

I found Many Waters had adult situations and was not appropriate for my age and it made me uncomfortable. Long story short I never read any more of her books.

5)What was your favorite book you ever read?

I, Coriander. The way Sally Gardner describes her characters and settings in this book are breathtakingly beautiful. I have read it several times through. 

6)What book is a must-read for your future children? 

This is a tough one! For a childrens' books, definitely Elephant and Piggie books, and of course If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. 

7)What was the funniest book you ever read? 

 The Five Children and It, my mother read this book to me and my brothers when we were young and I remember the constantly giggling. 

8)What was the strangest book you ever read? 

Monsieur Eek. Its only strange because its not really my type of book and I read it during my early twenties. It was on my shelf for some reason and I was like, "Hmm, this looks interesting!" 

9)What is it that leads you to decide whether a book is enjoyable or not?
If I can relate to the characters in some way will greatly influence my enjoyment of the book. An exciting or simply interesting plot will also pull me in. Characters that are dull and poorly written can be a disappointment as well as excessive crude humor or content.

10)What is the title of the oldest book you own and when was it published?

Marigold, 1938. Although I am more fond of my copy of Black Beauty from 1945.

Etsy Shop Review for MyBugs

So, as you all know I LOVE butterflies! I recently found an Etsy shop that sold butterfly related jewelry and I was quite intrigued as I had never seen anything like this before. 

After first making sure that the wings were ONLY acquired from cruelty free butterfly farms when the butterflies naturally died, and that the metal is hypo-allergenic, I decided to go ahead, buy a pair and see if they were really any good. 

The earrings are even more beautiful in person, and the lamination appears to be well done, now I just got these in so I can't review how well the lamination will hold up over time yet. 

The earrings took about two weeks to arrive, and the packaging for the earrings was quite pretty and plenty of bubble wrap :)  

The earrings are incredibly light and after wearing them for a bit I did not experience any pain/itching that happens when I wear non-hypoallergenic earrings. 

There are a ton of other colors, sizes and prices too!

I purchased the Urania Ripheus set, these wings came from a Sunset Moth. 

I think these would make a very nice Christmas gift for any butterfly, earring or unique jewelry enthusiast.

Stephanie's Gift

My sister is a very talented artist, and is blossoming every day with greater skill! She (along with all my younger siblings) adore the My Little Pony cartoon. Stephanie designed her own original character based on the cartoon. She named her Ruby Glitz and has drawn many pictures of her character. 

I knew about artists and seamstresses who could take drawings and turn them into an actual plushie, after a few months of research I contacted an artist named Jaime Diffee and commissioned a plushie. These beautiful handmade plushies can be expensive, but my parents and husband kindly chipped in!

Kitty was a tiny bit jealous- I had to remind her it was Stephie's birthday! She said "But my birthday is SO FAR AWAY!!" (it's in May) lol

I was very pleased with Jaime Diffee's work on the Plushie. 

I have seen many artists charge far too much for a poorly made plushie- however Jaime made my sister's beautiful plushie for under $100. I will also add that these Plushies are not suitable for children under 12, simply due to watching my siblings "love" cheaper store bought plushies to death!
