I am sad to say that we did lose Noel.
Inigo is still alive.
Justin was able to speak to a pet store worker about our situation
Apparently we did two things wrong, one was reusing a live plant from a fish bowl in which the fish had died.
(I had called a betta company and they said the plant was safe to use for a different fish...turns out it is not)
Another thing we did not know was that if a fish dies everything must be sterilized by boiling water, before reusing for another fish (gravel, fake plants, bowl)
So even though I had scrubbed everything in hot water it was not enough to kill off the bacteria.
They did think that Noel was possibly sick before we had bought him.
So now we are trying to save Inigo.

Oh, so sorry to hear that Rebecca. :( At least you know now so hopefully you can avoid problems in the future. Hope your other Betta makes it OK. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry about your pets. I had bettas for many years and never boiled the tanks between fish, but I guess it makes sense. Except that they all the good bacteria are killed too. . . Hope the problem gets solved and your pets flourish.
