Warning!
This post is VERY Nerdy!! :)
We weren't sure if we were going to make it this year, but everything worked out and we went to the ConnectiCon last week!! I went for the first time
last year, although Justin has been to this event many times.
Because we didn't know if we were going until the week of the event we didn't have time to put together cosplays so we just went in our favorite nerdy shirts!
The ConnectiCon is one of MANY conventions that happen every year all over the world. The most famous one is ComiCon. These Conventions attract A LOT of attendees, and there is an endless stream of fascinating things to see and do!
Hey look, it's me with a Dr. Who cosplayer!! :)
What is a "Cosplayer" you ask? A Cosplayer is a person who dresses up as a character from either a book, a video game, a movie, a tv series or a comic strip. Some people create very well-done costumes with amazing detail!
The next several photos are portraits I did of different Cosplayers, afterwards just more photos from the Con. Enjoy!!
You all might not recognize some of these upcoming characters, but I am pretty sure most, if not all of you would recognize
Yukon Cornelius from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!
Ariel from The Little Mermaid
Link from The Legend of Zelda
Fiona from Adventure Time
Belle from Beauty and the Beast
Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Now, on to more photos of the ConnectiCon!
Another Assassin's creed cosplay
One of the Dwarf characters from the Hobbit
These stairs were so full later in the day of people just resting. I would guesstimate maybe 3,000 people were there on the day we went. Last year over the three day weekend around 10,000 people attended!!! That's insane! My photos hardly convey just how many people were there!
Batman, I had seen him riding down the escalator and it was pretty funny.
The "Artist's Colony" here you could buy art prints, original sketches, comic books, buttons, stickers, bookmarks, t-shirts and TONS of other merchandise.
Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender
R2D2 from Star Wars
Another
Link cosplay, not sure who the girl in the blue wig is. I think she *might* be a humanized
Navi
The Sword booth, oh my word- they were GORGEOUS
The wooden swords were well crafted and so very cool!
I also found a Tardis!!
Gaming Room, at every table people were playing various board games or card games. Justin learned how to play "
Go" a popular and very old game that originated in China over 2,500 years ago- and is still played to this day! That's impressive!!
Everywhere you looked there were hundreds of people!
Humanized-Tardis!
We went out onto the courtyard and saw a crowd gathered and heard music so we went to check it out
These four were playing popular video game songs and were quite entertaining!
You can see the Connecticut Science Center in the background!
Back inside we found another Humanized Tardis
Very cool metal masks
Pretty Kimono-style dress. In the Dealer's Room there were many booths were you could buy clothing, costumes, hats, masks, belts, purses, wallets, dresses, wigs and fairy wings
Gaming Room and Cafe- Look at ALL THOSE PEOPLE!
Elves from the Lord of the Rings Cosplay (
Left,
Right)
There were quite a few foam sword duels throughout the day- it was fun to watch
These two were really getting into it!
And thus ends our ConnectiCon experience for 2013.
We wanted to stay longer but I ran out of energy! However I was glad we went, and for the fun we had!
So, how many of you have ever heard of Cons, or even Cosplaying before??
It is a pretty exciting thing!
God bless,
~Rebecca
