Kony...What Should You Do?

This is definitely an unusual post for my blog...

A video recently went viral, surpassing the 11,000,000 views mark.

It has appeared on Facebook, Blogger, Tumblr, Twitter, email and many other social networking site.

The 29 minute video is a plea to stop a man named Joseph Kony.
I am posting this video, but I want you all to read the continued post below the video. There is another side to this issue.

After watching the video you probably want to do something to help, you are probably shocked and horrified by this man's deeds.

Before you decide to spread this link, read the article below.

Quotes from the article:

"Invisible Children has been condemned time and time again. As a registered not-for-profit, its finances are public. Last year, the organization spent $8,676,614. Only 32% went to direct services (page 6), with much of the rest going to staff salaries, travel and transport, and film production. This is far from ideal for an issue which arguably needs action and aid, not awareness, and Charity Navigator rates their accountability 2/4 stars because they lack an external audit committee. But it goes way deeper than that."

"The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government’s army and various other military forces. Here’s a photo of the founders of Invisible Children posing with weapons and personnel of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. Both the Ugandan army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting, but Invisible Children defends them, arguing that the Ugandan army is “better equipped than that of any of the other affected countries”, although Kony is no longer active in Uganda and hasn’t been since 2006 by their own admission"

I believe Kony should be stopped, but I also want the TRUTH.

I am encouraging you to check out more behind the story before you post the video and make your own decision. Yes, Kony needs to be stopped, but stop him the right way. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Another article is : Is Kony 2012 a scam?

"The Daily What" one of the biggest websites on the internet is taking a stand on this issue too:

"Sending money to a nonprofit that wants to muck things up by dousing the flames with fuel is not helping. Want to help? Really want to help? Send your money to nonprofits that are putting more than 31% toward rebuilding the region’s medical and educational infrastructure, so that former child soldiers have something worth coming home to.
Here are just a few of those charities. They all have a sparkling four-star rating from Charity Navigator, and, more importantly, no interest in airdropping American troops armed to the teeth into the middle of a multi-nation tribal war to help one madman catch another.
The bottom line is, research your causes thoroughly. Don’t just forward a random video to a stranger because a mass murderer makes a five-year-old “sad.” Learn a little bit about the complexities of the region’s ongoing strife before advocating for direct military intervention."

  1. Wow, thank you so much for informing me. I actually was shown these articles earlier by a friend. I am still considering all the facts, keeping in mind that I need to be neutral and not listen to rumors... thank you very much for leaving a comment!

  2. this is hard. I mean what are we to believe! One second it seems to be the biggest problem but the next it seems to be quite the problem of truth or not! Well all we can to do it pray for all the children being abused constantly in those countries and pray God will call them to be saved. Also for every abuser to see Jesus also and know every theif is welcomed into the kingdom of God as a blameless sinner!

Your blog is amazing. I'm glad I found it.
