Gift cards to Lowe's from Brandon, Justin and I.

A 'mushy' card from mom

Stephanie had to read it because my dad NEEDS glasses even though he doesn't think so....

Awww birthday hugs!

Some kitchenware

Time for birthday pie!

Mom made shoo-fly pie.

Look how tall Jeremiah is!

Yay!

My handsome little brother rockin' those cute dimples!

On our way home that night we passed a small fair so I snapped a photo of this Ferris wheel!

Weekend with My Family!

A few weeks ago my husband had to make a 7 hour road trip to be in one of his close friend's weddings. My back unfortunately prevented me from being able to make such a long trip and since Justin was going away overnight my family invited to stay with them.

Goofing around with Katey! We had so much fun working on a scrapbook together and playing games!

Katelyn was also VERY excited to get to play Animal Crossing on my 3DS

My handsome brothers Matt and Jeremiah. They wanted me to play Super Smash Bros. with them and of course they won! (I'm so bad at that game!)

The adorable Mr. Caleb!

We watched Spirited Away together on Friday night. It was fun to snuggle up all together on the couch and watch a movie like we used to before I got married.

On Saturday night my brother Collin and his wife Sarah invited me over for dinner and a movie.

Sarah with her energetic fur-ball Molly

I loved playing with Molly, she was just too funny!

And here is a very special little treat for you all! The first ultrasound of my future niece or nephew! Sarah has had morning sickness but she and baby are doing very well. We are hoping the baby will arrive before Christmas, as the estimated due date is Dec 19th. Collin has been joking that they will just put a bow on the baby as everyone's Christmas gifts!

Dandelion Wishes

After a doctor's appointment recently I felt like I had enough energy to take a few photos just for fun. It has been a long time since I have done this and while I didn't take very many photos it was nice to enjoy one of my favorite hobbies.

Here is a little toad (or frog?) that we found hopping around. He was jumping here and there as quick as can be! He FINALLY stopped for about a minute so I was able to take this one photo.

Justin presented me with this teeny-tiny bouquet. These flowers are just too cute!

We had dandelions everywhere at our apartment a few weeks ago. I love when they go to seed.

Justin took this for me!

I love this guy's dopey smiles. Someday he will figure it out! lol

Memorial Day Picnic

Seeing as it's June I should probably catch up on what we have been up to!

Every year for Memorial Day weekend my in-laws have a church picnic at their home. I was actually able to not only go to the picnic but I was also able to stay for the whole day! I can't express how happy I was about that.

Justin with some friends.

My adorable Mother-in-law!

The crumb control squad- Shadow and Bailey

My family also came this year which was really nice! Collin got to show Sarah around the property and I shared all my memories with her from when I was dating Justin.

Sarah and Stephanie being adorable sisters-in-law. Stephanie is VERY attached to Sarah and it is too cute!

My father-in-law manning the grill. He had back surgery last year, and it is so beyond exciting to see him able to do the things he loves again.

We had mild weather and a good breeze for the picnic which was very nice. I personally don't mind heat but humidity is brutal.

Look how tall my baby brother is getting. He has officially passed me!  ;_;

Justin pulled out the giant bubble wands for the toddlers- let's just say they were quite excited!

We had a baby shower for Maxx and Jess during the picnic. They actually had their little boy a few days ago! Mom and baby M. are doing very well.

Little baby clothes are just too cute!

The beautiful momma-to-be. She is beyond excited that her son is finally here now!
I haven't gotten to meet the little guy in person yet but I have seen some photos and he looks just like his mom!

Soaking Up Some Sunshine!

A few weeks ago we visited my family and got to spend some time in the sun with my siblings.

Jeremiah, Caleb, Justin, Matt and Katey trying to make a human pyramid

"Carry me like a princess!"

"Carry me too!"

Matt showing off his kicks

Kitty on the swings- I LOVED swings as a child.

My brothers are confused on the proper use of the swingset.

The adorable Caleb

Cutest goofball ever!

Little brother loves me!

Katey is a cool kid

Such a ham!

Hey look it's Katey!

Rockin' the Princess Elsa braid

We wrapped up the evening with a game of King of Tokyo!

I know I am extremely lucky to have young siblings while a young adult. It's an experience many don't get and trust me it is awesome.

Why Sex Abuse Against Children IS a Big Deal- Despite What the Duggars Want You to Think.

I have gone back and forth about posting this but I feel like I should say something about the Duggar sex abuse scandal going on right now.
If you are under 18 years of age please note that I will be discussing mature topics below.

********************************************************************

The new police report continues to raise questions about why Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar failed to act in alerting authorities despite Josh’s repeated confessions of sexual molestation and why they didn’t do more to protect their daughters. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar could have faced up to six years in prison for their actions and been charged with Permitting Abuse of a Minor (Arkansas Code 5-27-221).

The sheriff’s document also shows the extent of Josh’s abuse. “ Josh told James that this had occurred 4 to 5 times and had occurred as [sister] was sleeping on the couch.”

To put this into perspective the molestation began sometime in 2002 when Josh 14- his sisters were
 12,  10,  9,  8, 4 years of age at the time.

Jessa and Jill have officially said they were two of his victims.

How sexual abuse affects children Children who were sexually victimized by other minors, including inter-sibling abuse, show largely the same problems as children victimized by adults, including anxiety disorders, depression, substance abuse, suicide, eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, sleep disorders and difficulty trusting peers in the context of relationships. The victim often has distorted beliefs about what happened to them, sometimes even thinking they were the initiator or that they went through the act voluntarily.

********************************************************************

As someone who had a family friend’s son touch me inappropriately several times when I was 4 and he was 6 or 7 I can tell you that this hits home for me. I dealt with unnecessary guilt for many years about what happened. Through the love of my family and husband I have finally found peace and healing. I know what happened to me is nowhere near the extent of what the Duggar girls went through  (to be honest it is fairly mild compared to this) but I know the emotional damage from the false guilt one can feel in these situations.

I’ve never been a fan of the Duggars, never really cared one way or another. But now I care. Sharing this personal story was a difficult choice. But if I can save one child from the pain I went through it is all worth it.

While I do understand that Josh WAS a child when this first happened; the fact that he did it again and again AFTER he confessed the first time then it becomes extremely problematic. I believe that what Josh did was wrong, that he knew at the time it was wrong and that his parents failed to protect their daughters, failed to get the girls proper counseling, failed to get Josh REAL help and are failing now at focusing on the victims rather than the abuser. Jessa defending Josh shows just how deeply she has been abused and blindsided by her brother’s behavior and her parents obvious choice of choosing their son over their daughters. I believe in forgiveness but I don’t believe that the victims should EVER, justify, explain away, belittle or excuse the actions of their abuser.
