Covid-19 and You

 Hello Everyone!
It seems like the Coronavirus is turning into a serious situation.
I know its tempting to ignore it or be all "If I get it, I get it"
However I would like to encourage you all to take this pandemic seriously.

Because it can take 2 weeks for an infected person to start showing symptoms in some cases of the COVID-19, an infected person will unknowingly spread the virus. This is why the coronavirus has spread so quickly. It can appear like its a simple cold in some cases which would lead to more accidental spread. One person may have mild symptoms, but inadvertently cause infection to others that will become severe for them.

Those under the age of 12 months, over 60 years, undergoing cancer treatment, or have an autoimmune disease are at high risk. This virus spreads quickly and doesn't discriminate. Essential oils, supplements, vitamins or any other home "cure" WILL NOT PROTECT YOU.

Literally old fashioned soap and water is the best prevention. Cover your sneeze/cough into your elbow. Avoid touching your face. Disinfect surfaces regularly. Avoid crowds of people.

Consider canceling or postponing upcoming gatherings, church services or other events where a crowd will be. Please be careful and considerate, remember it can take two weeks for symptoms to appear. You might feel fine, go to church or a party and unknowingly infect those around you.

Covid-19 is serious.
Doing all we can to prevent its spread is necessary.
The faster this thing is contained, the faster life can go back to normal.
Please don't think "you just won't get it because _______"
For the sake of the very young, immune-compromised, the over 60 group, please be responsible.
Stay Calm.
Don't Panic.
Wash Your Hands.
Be Responsible.

Love, Rebecca

Hey it's August!

Hello Everybody! I know I haven't posted since May, but I didn't forget about you!

Recently I was cleaning out my desk and found old art supplies and my childhood drawings. It put me in the mood to make some artwork. I'm not great at drawing but its still fun. I have developed a slight tremble in both of my hands as I've gotten older which makes drawing with a pencil or pen very difficult, so I decided to try other mediums.

I don't know how to fold Origami but since I have beautiful Origami paper from Japan I wanted to make something. I made a fox out of Origami paper and Mulberry paper

My childhood friend Lina suggested a landscape!
Made from torn mulberry paper

This one was more ambitious. I used a kid's water color to paint a background, then used different cut out pieces of card stock paper to make the fish shape.

Figuring out fin shapes and positions

Body base, fin cutouts glued to mulberry paper and my background drying.

I glued torn mulberry paper to each card stock piece and gradually built this Koi fish.
Fin details were drawn on with marker.

I also added a coat of mod podge just to seal everything together.

I got an acrylic set to mess around with but I think I like water colors more. I used a mix of water colors and acrylics for this parakeet

I then way over estimated my abilities and painted a wood duck. Do you know how many colors and details are in a wood duck?! I was crazy and almost gave up 3 different times.

Basic sketch and colors

Failing at keeping the white stripes even on the head. I almost quit here. I later used white acrylics to sorta fix the stripes.

This nightmare is a mix of watercolors, acrylics, marker, charcoal pencil and my tears.  You can see how shaky the white stripes on the head are,

I decided to simplify and draw my rabbit.

Percy was lounging near me while I tried to draw him

The body isn't correct proportions but at least it LOOKS like a rabbit?
I went with a caramel color so I could practice shading.
Percy is more of an earthy brown and bright white though.

Last doodle just to show how difficult it is for me to draw steady.  I can draw somewhat steady if I use something to rest my hand on. I painted with water colors and went over with a marker

I may or may not have a sticker problem....

 Scrap booking fun

I'm having fun playing with paints again. I wish the trembling wasn't an issue but what can ya do?

Love, Rebecca

Connecticut Tornadoes Aftermath

"The National Weather Service has confirmed that four tornadoes touched down in Connecticut Tuesday."

EversourceCT

"We have trees down in our yard. Neighbors have trees in their homes. We have one in our house, one in our car. Trees are just snapped in half," said Chris Borzillo of Hamden.

EversourceCT

"Two people in New Fairfield and Danbury were killed in separate accidents when trees fell on their trucks, including a woman whose 3-year-old child escaped injury."

EversourceCT

“It’s definitely one of the top five storms in the last few centuries for the number of tornadoes it created,” said Paul Slaski, a meteorologist at the Connecticut Weather Center. “It’s almost unprecedented.”

EversourceCT

"More than 150,000 homes and businesses went dark after Tuesday’s storms, which included four separate tornadoes...
Eversource crews from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are working alongside contractors and utility crews from Quebec and Michigan,"

EversourceCT

**************************************************

What a storm that was.

Last Tuesday, May 15th, we were expecting hail and high winds. Imagine my surprise to learn that we were experiencing tornadoes

I've never dealt with a tornado before 😐

The storm swept through and was over in maybe 30 to 45 minutes. We lost power. Things calmed down and seemed fine. To my relief the tornado had just missed our town. Others weren't so lucky. One of our own church members had a tree on/ in their house, another on both their cars and yet another broke down their fence.

It's been really sad driving through the area around us and seeing all the destroyed and fallen trees. So many are young trees. The young ones are not as tough to clean up as the big old trees but it's kinda sad to see baby trees broken and dead.

We had power restoration after two days, I'm very grateful to all the line workers from our state and other states that came to help.

Due to the tornado my oral surgery had to be postponed. There's insurance drama too so I'm just getting the broken tooth pulled for now. Getting all my wisdom teeth out and the dental implant for my broken tooth is too expensive. The implant alone is $2,000. It's not great to just leave the hole there, but we are hoping to find a more affordable way to get the implant done. My tooth hurts so bad and I just want it out at this point.

Prayers are appreciated

Being Authentically Me

I think I've decided to take this blog into a new direction. I've pretty much avoided writing any opinion or thought provoking posts on my blog due to not wanting to attract negative attention or "expose" my honest feelings on topics to my friends and family. There is also the fact that my personal opinions are subject to change and grow and I don't want to have something I wrote ages ago be bashed over my head, especially if my thoughts have since changed.

Maybe these feelings are coming about because of recent birthday. Turning 29 has hit me. I'm truly not a child anymore. I still think of myself as an idiot 16 year old though. I lack a lot of confidence in who I am and what I am. My mom was pregnant with baby #3 by 29, while I'm an anxious pile of person that struggles to accomplish basic adult responsibilities (still not driving)

I know I'm not the only 29 year old to struggle with feeling lost in life, I remind myself of this often. People who look like they have it together are just that- they LOOK like they have it together. I probably look way more competent than I feel.

Struggling with anxiety and panic attacks definitely adds to my feelings of inadequacy and failure. I've been seeing a therapist once a month and it's been very nice. It's great to be able to talk things out or just complain without judgement. 😂 All joking aside, it has been very good for me. It has helped me understand my anxiety problems and why I have them in the first place. I still get panic attacks but I can recognize what's happening much quicker and decrease the length of the attack. That's  very nice.

Well, here's to my last year in my 20s

Lost To a Virus

Hello everybody!

I have been away from blogging recently due to a virus on my laptop. My husband and I have been trying everything, even brought it to a repair shop but it appears to be a lost cause. The laptop is 7 years old so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that it has finally bit the dust.

I'm thankful that all of my photos and documents were on my external hard drive so I haven't lost those. I have a LOT of photos and it would be devastating to lose them.

I am currently using my husband's old laptop for now. I am still able to edit photos but it is also an old laptop and the editing program runs as fast as a snail stuck in molasses.

I hope my readers are all doing well, and that the summer will be a wonderful one for you!

Hopefully I can start blogging more regularly with this laptop of Justin's.

One Very Crazy Thursday

This past Thursday my mom and dad took a trip to the ER. My dad was having chest pains and numbness in his arms. Justin was able to drop me off at my parent's house to stay with my youngest siblings before he made the hour long drive to his job. I spent the day with my brothers and sisters while we waited for news from my mom.

The staff at the hospital did a catheter on my dad and everything looked clear. There is no blockage or build up in his heart or arteries. Dad was able to return home around 5pm. My brother Brandon bought a pizza for the family, and my brother Collin and his family brought me home. It was a stressful day but it was awesome to see everyone pitch in to help my mom and dad.

The kids and I made cards and decorated the chalkboard for dad. Katelyn's card was my favorite!
Matt asked her,"Why is dad not wearing a shirt?"
Kat replied, "To show of his buff!!"

My dad is going to be seeing a cardiologist in February.
I am so thankful that my dad is home. He seems to be doing ok so far. I am a bit impatient that we have to wait a few weeks for the cardiologist appointment for him, but I'm hoping that it won't be too hard for the doctors to figure out what is going on.

We appreciate all your prayers!

A Visit to the Emergency Room - Kidney Stone!

For the past few days I have been experiencing sharp pain in my lower left side of my back. I assumed it was just my herniated discs acting up again so I just did my usual regimen of pain management with heat, ice and the occasional pain medication. Yesterday morning however the pain woke me up and it was intense. Pure burning, stabbing misery all on my lower left side. We kept thinking it was my back but then as the day progressed I started to have a hard time using the bathroom and that was when it started to dawn on me that I might be dealing with a kidney stone.

With nothing working to relive the pain Justin took me to the ER. I passed out from the pain in triage, than later fell asleep in a wheel chair in the waiting room. About 2 and a half hours after we had arrived I was admitted into a room. I was hooked up to an IV and given morphine. I've never had morphine before and wow...that stuff is fast acting. I've never had an IV before either but it wasn't as scary as I expected.  I had a very nice nurse named Franklin and he was very kind and patient. He had a hard time finding the blood vessel to do the IV in, but kept cracking jokes so I wouldn't feel upset. Later on in the evening they gave me a CAT scan and found a 2mm stone in my left kidney. My tormentor has been found!!

I'm home now with pain meds and another med to help me pass the stone. I almost had a panic attack a few times  at the hospital but Justin was there so I was able to calm myself down. I'm in a bit of pain today but its significantly less.
Please pray I pass the stone soon and for follow up with my doctor so we can prevent these stones.  I've apparently had smaller ones in the past that I thought was just my herniated discs acting up.

I took a funny selfie at the ER so enjoy.

Update!

Hello readers!
I didn't intend to take a hiatus but with my Aunt's passing I didn't really feel like blogging much, and then Justin came down with the flu. I have been meaning to update on here but time just passed on by!

The funeral was very emotional for my family and for my Aunt's family. However it was also a very beautiful celebration of her life. Being born with a heart condition always meant that Aunt Pam's health would always be fragile. There were many times she almost passed away but God pulled her through. In 1997 it seemed like we were certainly going to lose her when God provided a much needed heart transplant. That heart allowed her 18 more years with us. People who receive heart transplant rarely make it past 15 years after the surgery, so we were VERY blessed that God let us have her in our lives for so long.

My mother is taking this loss very hard, Pam was her best friend and the sister she never had. I am doing my best to comfort my mom but I know there is not much I can do. I pray and hope that she can grieve and find some peace.

Justin is still on the mend. Your prayers are appreciated.

Thank You!

I just wanted to say a great big thank you to all my readers who took the time to write to me. It was so very nice to "meet" some new readers and some older readers who had never commented before. I am glad to hear that I am not as boring as I fear I am!

Having the back injury really takes up a good portion of my time, energy and happiness. It is something I have to constantly work around and it gets very annoying. I try sometimes to just "ignore the pain" and push through but it never fails that I quickly regret that when I can't move for the next three days.

Adjusting to this has been incredibly difficult. I never truly realized how much I took my back muscles and spine for granted. Being extremely careful when you lift or move heavy objects is totally worth it and I hope you all don't ever have to deal with herniated discs. Or any major injury for that matter.

With the back injury comes limitations and after a while I get pretty stumped about what to do with myself during the day. I read, play games, work online but there is still sooooo much time where I just can't do anything else and I have already done all that I can do.

I know someday when I'm busy with kids I will look back on this time in my life and think I was crazy to complain about an excessive amount of free time. It's too bad I can't start saving up some "free time" for the future!

Alright- now I want to hear from my readers:
What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? Any special family traditions? Please tell me in the comments!

Love, Rebecca

Fall, Life and Books!

Hello readers!

Life has been interesting the past two weeks, Justin and I both came down with colds, our dryer broke AGAIN and our kitchen sink is leaking...

Fun, fun, fun!

I also did my little brother's engagement portraits and I'm currently editing them. Collin and his Fiancee are way too cute- my goodness. Brings back memories of my engagement. Ah, the young puppy love stage :) it is simply too cute! I am so beyond excited about my brother's upcoming wedding. Sarah is so very sweet and she fits in with our family incredibly well. They definitely belong together!

Our weather went from gorgeous to yucky. Mildly warm and humid. Personally I want my cool fall days back ASAP! The leaves here are getting so beautiful though, some really rich colors are starting to appear. It still is mostly green with mini explosions of red, orange and yellow here and there.

Justin deep cleaned our home last week and it looks beautiful. Still have a bit more decluttering to do but we are making progress. I am so very thankful that my husband takes pride in running our home while I am dealing with this back pain. He is also an amazing cook and I am so very thankful for that as well!

I have been doing counseling with my pastor on a twice-a-month basis. It has been a blessing. I did try to start going back to church again but the pews are just not good for my back. We are trying to find another option for seating for me. In the mean time I still have the anxiety to deal with. I wish I knew what triggers the panic attacks when it comes to church. I am thankful though for the support of my church family. It is very precious- Don't EVER underestimate what a kind word, note or card to a fellow member of your church can do especially in times of trials or illness. I highly encourage you all to send a card to somebody you know this week.

October is here and I want to do a "Booktober" theme (lame name I know! lol) I will be posting some book reviews during this month and if you would like to write a guest post book review or even write posts for "Booktober" on your own blog email me! (my email is on my Contact Me page) I have a pre-written book interview if anyone is interested :)

I hope you all have a great day!

Love, Rebecca

Recognize Endometriosis as a Disabling Condition- Petition

Hello readers!
Have any of you heard of Endometriosis? It is a condition that causes the lining of the uterus to grow OUTSIDE of the uterus, and when the monthly cycle begins this lining will shed, but since it has no where to go it just stays in the body continuing to grow and causing considerable pain and discomfort to the woman with this condition. I know a few ladies with this problem and the pain they describe sounds awful.

There is a petition to the White House for Endometriosis to be recognized as a disabling condition. I have already signed it and I encourage you all to sign it as well!

Below is the personal testimony from a young woman who is suffering from Endometriosis.

"I would like it if you could take a moment of your time to hear this information. March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, and I would like to help spread awareness.
I began having symptoms at age 11, had my first surgery and diagnosis at 15. I am now soon to be 25 and have had 3 more surgeries, numerous hormonal treatments, epidurals, radio-frequency nerve ablation, physical therapy, mindfulness training, acceptance and commitment therapy, and countless other treatments. I’ve tried dietary changes and exercise and everything from there to prescription narcotics.
I love school and graduated high school at age 16. I still don’t have a bachelor’s degree because of issues I’ve encountered with pain preventing me from attending school, and three years ago I had to leave school indefinitely. Some days I can’t get out of bed and either have to be helped to the bathroom or crawl. Other days I can manage to get errands done if I have medication. Every day is a struggle.
This is not ‘just cramps’ I am not imagining it. I am not exaggerating my level of pain. This is real. This disease has caused damage to my heart because of constant intractable pain, medications have damaged my stomach, I grind my teeth in my sleep when I’m in pain to the point I’ve damaged my hearing. I won’t even begin to go into the psychological damage.
Right now Endometriosis is not considered a disabling condition, and anyone who files for disability with only Endometriosis will be denied with no consideration. Even once it reaches the point of ravaging the rest of the body and destroying the mind it is still hardly looked at, and dismissed. Some women have minimal symptoms, that is not the norm. Something else I want you all to realize is that there is no cure for this.
There is no cure.
I ask that you take a few moments to sign this petition before April 4, 2014and try to help gain some recognition for women in tremendous need. To each person who signs this I thank you."
excerpt from madaranookami.tumblr.com

Thankyou to all my lovely readers who took the time to sign :) You are the best!

Love, Becca

Justice for Vader

So I have been following this blog called "May the Fox Be With You" for a while now. It's about a young couple who owned a domesticated pet fox. They posted photos and vidoes of his adventures and what it was like owning an exotic animal. I really enjoyed reading about the experiences they had and their honesty about how rewarding and difficult exotic pet ownership can be.

Very recently this couple's pet fox was taken from them and euthanized after an anonymous person claimed that Vader bit them. There was no evidence or proof presented. It's heartbreaking that this cute little guy is gone forever. I really loved reading about him.

I cannot fathom the pain this couple is going through after losing their precious Vader after all the time, work and care they put into his precious little life.

There is a petition going on for justice for this couple in the loss of their pet. My husband and I both signed and if you are interested you can sign to here at

Unwanted

Back in November of last year, on the week of Thanksgiving I experienced what it was like to feel completely and totally unwanted.

A former close friend of mine, who had meant so very much to me ended our friendship. I wasn't able to write about it at the time because I honestly was bewildered.

The friendship was once very strong and our bond was close, but as time went on the contact between use decreased more and more until it stopped all together.

In an effort to figure out what on earth was going on, I ended up making things worse by trying to repair hurt feelings and she ended our friendship. She was not willing to go through the work of restoring things with me.

I couldn't understand why- I still can't
I was not worth it. All my time and energy put into her life was so easily tossed aside in a second. I meant nothing to her. Our friendship was not worth saving. I can only imagine that I valued her way more than she valued me for her to end it so easily.

I'm angry, at her but more so at myself. I let it happen again after all. Let another person hurt me after I trusted them. Why am I so foolish?

This whole experience has thrown me deeper into avoiding people and just making it even harder to try to go to church anytime soon. I have always struggled to trust people and right now even more so.

It's going to be a very long time before I can even attempt forming a new friendship with anyone.

I feel so unwanted. I know Justin loves me and her certainly wants me around, but then again he has taken the time and effort to get to know me and he discovered something that made me worth it to him.
I just feel like apart from my husband no one else really wants me around. When we get invited to parties, why bother going? No one will talk to me anyways. No one ever does. I have been mocked in public in front of 50 people for talking too much, so I can barely talk to anyone anymore without panicking that I will be made fun of again. We can barely have company over without me having panic attacks before they arrive and after they leave.

I worry that when Justin shows up everyone smiles but as soon as they see me they inwardly groan. Justin is less inclined to jump into sports or games if I am with him after all.

I worry that I ruin the fun for everyone else because I just am there. I don't feel wanted.

Sorry...

Hello lovely readers,

I'm having a hard time lately about blogging. I don't know if it's merely writer's block, the fact that life is as boring and dreary as a rainy winter day or I'm just too depressed that hinders me from writing.

I do have ideas for posts but I'm worried that I might write too sad and be all depressing. I don't want to make anybody feel sad because of me!

Anyways,  I may wait till I am feeling less depressed to write my planned posts. I have a book review, a post about my photography being affected by my health and about a circumstance with a loss in my life that's been hard to deal with. I really do want to write about the things that are less happy because so many of you offer such real and encouraging advice and I love that so much!

As to my wedding blog- I AM SO STUMPED. I have -no lie- over 10 draft posts that I cannot seem to finish. *sighhhhhhh*

I hope my lovely readers are having a great week, I miss hearing from you all!

By the way- Katy from Tales From The Little White House updated her blog about the birth of her second child!! Please go check it out and leave a comment! She has been sick for the past few days and I know she would LOVE a few messages to cheer her up! Being sick is no fun!

Also, if you are looking for a good give-a-way and review blog I highly recommend Life According to Lina

Need More Fluffiness?

Ok, so I have an obsession with fluffy birds. I just adore it when my parakeet Zoey fluffs up her feathers.
Anyways, I noticed a distinct lack of "fluffy bird appreciation" so a while ago I started up a little tumblr blog of fluffy birds.

Go enjoy the absolute cuteness here

Hair Cut and Health Update

Felt it was time for something different. I have to get used to the bangs though... lol
My hair is soooo thick and heavy so I had it thinned and layered as well. The lady who cut my hair could not get over just how much hair was swept up after!

Regarding my health, I went to the doctors this past week, turns out I have low blood pressure and that makes me more sensitive to heat. I can't even take hot showers anymore :( It is nice to know that is why I feel so sick and weird after a shower, but now I have to get used to colder showers. Oh well!

I will be starting physical therapy next week, I have been having weird back pain. The doctor noticed that my spine is curving to the right some. I fell when I was a young teen while roller blading and couldn't sit for a long time without pain. My doctor said I possibly bruised or fractured my tail bone. I would appreciate your prayers that physical therapy helps!

It never ends!

God bless,
~Rebecca

Thoughts on Days Long Gone...

This lady photographed in the 1960s is my great Grandmother.
She passed away several years ago at the age of 96.
Because she lived in Canada, and because she did not speak english- I never got a chance to know her while she was alive.

My mother found this photograph last year and made a digital copy. I was able to save the photo to my computer too.

Looking at this photo...I have so many questions! I know very little about my ancestors...and for a history buff like me- that is very depressing. I wish I knew more about my family's history. Not just 100 years back, but as far as possible! Knowing that will probably never happen makes me very sad. I'd love to know if they did anything special, met anyone famous, saw a famous event, maybe even a fascinating love story or two... I certainly wish I could know their stories.

God bless,
~Rebecca

ConnectiCon 2013

Warning!
This post is VERY Nerdy!!  :)

We weren't sure if we were going to make it this year, but everything worked out and we went to the ConnectiCon last week!! I went for the first time last year, although Justin has been to this event many times.
Because we didn't know if we were going until the week of the event we didn't have time to put together cosplays so we just went in our favorite nerdy shirts!

The ConnectiCon is one of MANY conventions that happen every year all over the world. The most famous one is ComiCon. These Conventions attract A LOT of attendees, and there is an endless stream of fascinating things to see and do!

Hey look, it's me with a  Dr. Who cosplayer!! :)
What is a "Cosplayer" you ask? A Cosplayer is a person who dresses up as a character from either a book, a video game, a movie, a tv series or a comic strip. Some people create very well-done costumes with amazing detail!

The next several photos are portraits I did of different Cosplayers, afterwards just more photos from the Con. Enjoy!!

You all might not recognize some of these upcoming characters, but I am pretty sure most, if not all of you would recognize Yukon Cornelius from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!

Ariel from The Little Mermaid

Link from The Legend of Zelda

Pikachu from Pokemon

Fiona from Adventure Time

Princess Jasmine from Aladdin

Belle from Beauty and the Beast

Princess Merida from Brave

Aang as an adult from Avatar: The Last Airbender

Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean

The 10th Doctor from Doctor Who

Now, on to more photos of the ConnectiCon!

Another Assassin's creed cosplay

One of the Dwarf characters from the Hobbit

These stairs were so full later in the day of people just resting. I would guesstimate maybe 3,000 people were there on the day we went. Last year over the three day weekend around 10,000 people attended!!! That's insane! My photos hardly convey just how many people were there!

Batman, I had seen him riding down the escalator and it was pretty funny.

Enderman from Minecraft

The "Artist's Colony" here you could buy art prints, original sketches, comic books, buttons, stickers, bookmarks, t-shirts and TONS of other merchandise.

Female Jack Frosts from Rise of the Guardians

Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender

R2D2 from Star Wars

Another Link cosplay, not sure who the girl in the blue wig is. I think she *might* be a humanized Navi

The Sword booth, oh my word- they were GORGEOUS

The wooden swords were well crafted and so very cool!

I also found a Tardis!!

Princess Luna from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Gaming Room, at every table people were playing various board games or card games. Justin learned how to play "Go" a popular and very old game that originated in China over 2,500 years ago- and is still played to this day! That's impressive!!

Everywhere you looked there were hundreds of people!

Humanized-Tardis!

We went out onto the courtyard and saw a crowd gathered and heard music so we went to check it out

These four were playing popular video game songs and were quite entertaining!

You can see the Connecticut Science Center in the background!

Back inside we found another Humanized Tardis

Very cool metal masks

Pretty Kimono-style dress. In the Dealer's Room there were many booths were you could buy clothing, costumes, hats, masks, belts, purses, wallets, dresses, wigs and fairy wings

Gaming Room and Cafe- Look at ALL THOSE PEOPLE!

Elves from the Lord of the Rings Cosplay (Left, Right)

Female Robin

There were quite a few foam sword duels throughout the day- it was fun to watch

These two were really getting into it!

And thus ends our ConnectiCon experience for 2013.
We wanted to stay longer but I ran out of energy! However I was glad we went, and for the fun we had!

So, how many of you have ever heard of Cons, or even Cosplaying before??
It is a pretty exciting thing!

God bless,
~Rebecca
