Blogger Tag

Remember Memes? Not those hilarious pictures that make their way around- I'm talking about the old questionnaires with random questions that were really fun to answer! Trash Can Bloggers is hosting a fun old-fashioned Meme blog hop!

I was tagged by Galina at - Life According to Lina

memelogocopy

The rules are simple: You get tagged in a post to answer the simple questions below. You copy and paste (or type out, if you have the extra time, but I don’t know many bloggers who do!) and answer them. Then, you pick a blogger to tag and they repeat the chain. You must do the questions on your blog, not on Facebook or anywhere else. When you are done, tag ONE blogger friend and have them do the post just as you did!

The person you tag should do their post in 3-4 days and tag someone else. The number one rule? Have fun!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
My fish tank's water fountain/filter, My rabbit playing in his hay and my bird playing with her toys.

-If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Near the ocean, Mystic CT is REALLY pretty

-Do you have a garden?
I have several potted plants in my home, but no outdoor garden.

-If you could eat lunch with one famous person, who would it be?
This is a tough one....there are so many people I would love to meet! But if I had to chose one, probably Lindsey Stirling.

-What time is bed time?
Bed time is 10pm, but I have sleeping problems so it's always different for when I actually fall asleep. I still do get in bed by 10pm.

-What’s under your bed?
Boxes of my stuff for scrapbooking, my husbands Legos and his stuff.

-Do you sing in the shower?

sometimes

-How many keys on your key ring?

5

-How far away from your birthplace do you live now?

30 min

-Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Night Owl

Question On Parakeets

Adorable! Do birds "warm up" to humans over time or will she always be a bit stand-offish? I know some people who have birds that are very affectionate and some (like the one my sister had) are very mean! -S

Someone asked me this question and it is a very good question!

I think each bird is totally different when it comes to being affectionate. From what I have read and heard- Cockatoos are VERY cuddly and affectionate, while Caiques are known to be a bit more stand-offish. But even within their own breeds birds are different.
I have had three in my life-all parakeets. My first one was a male and he was very bitey at the beginning but mellowed out as he aged. Very affectionate toward the later years of his life.

My second bird was a female, not very bitey and very affectionate. Zoey, my third, is still bitey and is still warming up to us. I think how they were raised, plus the human interaction are factors too in their disposition.

Some breeders will pull the chicks (within the first 5 weeks of hatching) from the mom bird and then hand feed and raise them. This can produce calmer more affectionate birds, but it has had problems too.

Parakeets at pet stores are usually not hand raised and so essentially I bought a "wild" bird.

And since Parakeets are flock birds the goal is for her to see Justin and I as part of her "flock". This can take some time.
All in all, she is pretty good. She even let me take a "family picture" lol

 Thanks for the question!
God bless,
~Rebecca

To All My Awesome Readers...

Believe it or not, just a few months ago I was honestly contemplating whether I should take a break from blogging, or stop altogether.  I even briefly thought about closing my blog down.

I was experiencing a severe writer's block and boredom with my blogging. I couldn't think of anything interesting to blog about!! I think this was partially from the fact that the wedding planning had taken over my blogging for almost a year... and now I was stumped.

But, thanks to the post on Anime I was able to get past my writer's block!Hooray!

And now with my new project "The Tale of the Four Brides" I am once again enthusiastic about my blog!

I just want to say thanks! You deserve a hug!!

 "Hug"

Katy Tagged Me!

I have been tagged by my dear "little sister" Katy over at her blog "Tales From the Little White House"!  Here goes!

First the rules:
1.) You must post these rules
2.) Each person must post eleven things about them on their blog.
3.) Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.

11 Things About Me:
 1. My earliest memory from my childhood is trying to take a nap and it was too bright in my room. So I grabbed the little trash can in my room and put it over my head so the light wouldn't bother me. I actually fell asleep. My mom has a video tape of it too....

2. I prayed for a sister for nine years, Stephanie was finally born in '99...Justin turned 10 on the day my sister was born!

3. I had 3 pet rabbits when I was a child, a white male names "Erik" a rust colored female named "Ariel" and a black male named "Pippin". To this day I still have a major soft spot for bunnies.   :)

4. My grandparents on both sides are of Canadian French heritage.

5. My grandfather built me a huge wooden doll house when I was 11 years old, I loved that doll house so much that my mom even scheduled out an hour for "Doll house time" in her daily planner.

6. My family once celebrated Christmas on the 26th of December because we were traveling back home from Maine on the 25th. We had spent the Christmas week with my Uncle and Aunt. I had my first snowmobile ride that week.

7. I first became interested in photography when I was about 17. I had found an old camera that my mom had, it was from the 1980s but it was a professional camera. I read the entire booklet that came with the camera even though the camera itself no longer worked.

8. I once spent two weeks at a Teen camp that was also the location for a film crew. I would never recommend the film as it was of the horror genre, but it was a very special experience to be living on an actual film set. The cast and crew would often watch us campers play ultimate Frisbee and cheer us on.

9. The first time I met Justin we were both 18 years old, we didn't start courting till we turned 20 years old.  I knew him for almost two years beforehand!!

10. Justin used to call me every day after we had been courting for a few months...and during night time calls he would often fall asleep mid-sentence!! He would keep talking sometimes...he once said that a hedgehog worth $5,000 had broke into his work place. lol.

11. I wore my mother's wedding veil for my own wedding. I left it and my tiara in the bridal restroom during the reception. Later on the tiara was discovered all bent, and the veil had been ripped in half.  I managed to save the tiara but the veil was damaged beyond repair. I am sad about this still, but I am glad I got the opportunity to wear it.

11 questions from Katy:
  1. Do you like salty or sweet better? I like sweet better. Although salty is good too. :)
  2. What are three words you would use to descibe yourself? Oh boy....um... creative, sarcastic, and sweet.
  3. What is the neatest things that ever happened to you in your life? Getting saved, and getting married are my top choices, but other then that the neatest thing ever was going on a cruise!!
  4. What is your favorite Bible verse? Why. I have a favorite chapter, Psalm 27. It is a very encouraging book!!
  5. Would you rather read a good book or watch a movie to relax? Tough choice. Probably watch a movie, because I can cuddle with my husband!
  6. What is your favorite color? Purple and Green.
  7. Who is the person who inspires you the most? My husband. He is so calm and down-to-earth!
  8. What is one thing about you that people don't usually know? I tend to be shy sometimes, and then at other times VERY outgoing. It baffles me!
  9. Would you rather be hot or cold? Cold, because I can snuggle under blankets.
  10. What is your favorite type of food? Anything with cheese!
  11. What is your favorite classic old movie? "The Long Long Trailer"
  12.
I am not tagging anyone as they have already been tagged and the other blogs I read are photography only or closed/private.

A Question of Discernment

I received several wonderful comments on my sister's drawing (pictured above), and thank you!

I also received a very kind and considerate question regarding the anime controversy of having bad/evil background, and is something to avoid.
Thank you to the commenter for your concern.
I would like to comment on this, as Anime is a source of controversy among Christians.

The word "Anime" is actually the Japanese word for "Animation."
It's their term for what we call "cartoons"
"Anime" also refers to the stylized way that the characters are drawn, most notably the trademark large eyes.  Anime is essentially, just a way to draw things, an art form.
It is no different from clay animation, puppetry, Computer Generated Images (CGI), watercolor, oil paintings, cubism, abstract....it is art.

Anime is also controversial for other things which aren't so great- blood, violence, sensuality and witch craft.
Yes, there are some anime cartoons
where all of these undesirable traits are present.
I might also add that are also some American cartoons
that have all these traits as well.
("The Black Cauldron" for example- 1985 Disney cartoon,
a strong focus on demons and witchcraft)
MANY American cartoons and movies contain the traits I mentioned.

My point is, just because a bad movie is made with CGI we don't call CGI evil. We call the movie bad. Not the medium with which it was made.
I am getting a bit off topic, as I am not defending Anime cartoons. I'm defending the art form.

***************************************************************

So......... is Anime evil?
I have seen the countless forums where people argue back and forth about Anime, and frankly I am not interested in joining that fire-fight. I'm not debating who is wrong or who is right.
There are some Anime cartoons and movies that I would say, yes... they have an evil content to the story. The story plot is evil, and there are times that the drawings themselves are inappropriate.
There are also some Anime cartoons where the story is cute and sweet with no objectionable and no inappropriate content.

I'm no expert on Anime as I have not watched alot of it, but I wouldn't personally call Anime evil.
I do understand why some would say it is. If the only American cartoons I ever saw were only "The Black Cauldron" or anything similar, I would too question what this cartoon industry's basis is.

If you feel that the whole realm of "Anime" is not for you and your family, there is no need to worry about it.
We have liberty in Christ, and with that liberty comes a responsibility.
We must look at things from a Biblical perspective and discernment.
Are there books, movies, websites, fads, social-networking, games, friends, ideas that you are just not sure about?
Pray about them.
If something is taking the place of Christ, or is going against what God teaches in His Word do consider its removal, for you and for your family.

Question from a Jewish Lady...

I recently received a wonderful comment...

Hi - I just found your blog. I am Jewish and don't know a lot about Christianity but I found it interesting that in these pictures you are all dressed so modestly. What branch of Christianity requires you to dress in such a wonderfully modest way that is more akin to us Jews? Most Christians I've known dress very indecently. Also, what is the teaching you follow about touching in public? I'll admit I was shocked to see in your photos girls sitting on boys' laps. Even if they are married these seems immodest and I'm wondering how you rectify that with your beliefs about modesty. I'm always interested in learning more and connecting with other modest, obedient wives.

Thankyou so much to the person who commented, I will do my best to answer your questions!

What branch of Christianity requires you to dress in such a wonderfully modest way that is more akin to us Jews? Most Christians I've known dress very indecently.

-My husband and I as well as several of the relatives are independent Baptists,  most of the rest seen in the photos attend a non-denominational church with Baptistic doctrine in an area where there is much Mennonite influence.  I personally do not know much about my husband's relatives, but I can explain why I choose to be modest.

As I stated before, I am an independent Baptist.
The church I attend is not affliated or part of any other form of denomination.
-modesty is not a rule in my church. It is however greatly encouraged that the women dress modestly.
-The standard of Modesty is the choice of each individual.
-In my church it is required that the ladies who serve in the church be dressed modestly. (Pastor's wife, Deacons' wives etc)
My parents raised me to dress modestly, and the church I grew up in also taught and encouraged modesty.  I personally believe that modesty in dress is very important and I practice it.
I choose to dress modesty, not just because my parents required it of me, but because I personally believe it is the best way for me to honor God.

what is the teaching you follow about touching in public? I'll admit I was shocked to see in your photos girls sitting on boys' laps.

-Our church gives no rules for married couples regarding touching in public. Unmarried people are a different story it is taught within in our church and our own family that boys and girls should refrain from touching until they are married.
In the photo you saw of girl's sitting on boy's lap, all are married couples.
In the photo you saw of girl's sitting on boy's lap, all are married couples. This was a family gathering , and  how each couple chooses to be with their spouse in public is their personal decision. The majority of the married couples in my husbands family practiced a "no-touching" rule until they were married, after marriage there were no more "no touching" rules.

There is of course a realm of touch that belongs to the married couple, but in our (local/family) culture just sitting in this manner does not carry any immodest connotations with it.

Even if they are married these seems immodest and I'm wondering how you rectify that with your beliefs about modesty.

I am not familiar with the Jewish cultures teachings of modesty, but I assume you are talking about behavioral modesty?  We are taught two forms of modesty, with clothing, and with behavior.

Sitting on my husband's lap is not something I ever even thought of as being questionable. Before we were married I would have NEVER sat on his lap. That would have definitely been inappropriate. But now that we are married I do not see it as immodest  with family present.

I will add that I rarely sit on my husband's lap in public and the reason I was in the photo is because we were trying to get 40 people into one room.

So yes, it does rectify with our beliefs on modesty.

Thank you so much for your Question! I hope I answered your thoughts and inquiries, as I do not know much about Jewish culture I was not sure of what some of your questions meant. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
